FHE at Wheeler Farm
With the weather FINALLY getting it right and realizing that it's SPRING.....Matthew and I looked forward to a night out and about in the lovely sunshine. Last week it snowed on my birthday....AGAIN..... and now we have enjoyed a full week of sunshine and lovely warm weather. Matthew came up with the lovely idea to have a picnic out at Wheeler Farm and Evelynn and I were extremely excited about the venture. We decided to have chili-dogs and pasta salad for the picnic and found a nice spot with a little shade for Evelynn.

Evelynn had already had her dinner for the night and so she looked on as we enjoyed "grown-up" food.
Matthew threw some of our hotdog buns over to some geese that were clear on the other side of the park and they came bustling right on over and gobbled it down. Matthew thought it was hilarious to bring the bread closer and closer until they were almost eating my toes. I'm not generally afraid of animals but there was one goose (see the picture below) who kept getting closer and closer and would hiss at the other geese. She kept eyeing me as if to say "how dare you eat your bread instead of giving it to me" and kept shaking her head at me. Evelynn was entranced by them and not scared a bit but I was definitely relieved when Matt started throwing the bread a little further away from us.
"Madame Goose" who felt rather entitled to the bread hand-outs. There were a couple brown geese too that were really tame and ate right out of Matthew's hand.
Apparently mohawks are in fashion for the truly modern duck :-) Maybe we should bring Evelynn's mohawk back into being ~ although I think her hair is a little too long for it now.
The way this little lamb was head-butting his mother as he nursed made me VERY glad that Evelynn is a much gentler "nurser" even if she does make a lot of noise while she's eating!
Matthew was making sure the rooster was getting all the wheat that had fallen on the other side of the chicken wire. Waste not~Want not, right! The rooster paid Matthew's efforts back by almost pecking his finger.
Here was a darling little baby goat that had to have just barely been born. It's twin is tucked away in the hay behind him. The pigs in the back-ground were keeping up a chorus of snorts and snuffles.
There were lots of new baby animals to "ooooh' and "aaaaah" at. Little Evelynn wasn't that impressed since she was being bumped and jostled to sleep as we walked along the dirt/pebble paths with her in the stroller.
Here's a large barn that at one point had been turned into a restaurant. I'm not sure what it is now, but it's a great building with nice land all around it.
More of the scenery on Wheeler Farm.
Matthew and Evelynn walking along just as we're about to wrap it up for the night. I like being out with my two Sweeties.
A final shot of a prancing lamb, excited to be out in the world and experiencing all the new sights and smells of life. It really was a fun evening. Matthew wants to go fishing/camping for our next outing on a "long" weekend in May and we can't wait :-) He'll just have to figure out how to untangle me from the fishing line! Lol
